Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, metallic taste, headache, dizziness, hypoglycemia (sweating, tremor, palpitations), weight gain

Risk of hypoglycemia (higher with missed meals, alcohol, intense exercise, elderly); carry fast-acting glucose. Metformin can rarely cause lactic acidosis—seek urgent care for rapid breathing, severe weakness, abdominal pain, hypothermia. Avoid/use with caution in kidney impairment; periodic renal function tests needed. Use caution in liver disease, heart failure, dehydration, severe infection, or hypoxia. Temporarily stop before/after iodinated contrast procedures and major surgery as advised by doctor.

Alcohol (increases hypoglycemia/lactic acidosis risk), insulin/other antidiabetics (additive hypoglycemia), beta-blockers (mask hypoglycemia symptoms), corticosteroids/diuretics (raise glucose), ACE inhibitors (may enhance glucose-lowering), fluoroquinolones (dysglycemia), rifampicin (may reduce effect), cimetidine (may increase metformin levels), iodinated contrast media (risk of kidney injury/lactic acidosis)

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from moisture and light. Keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.
