Not recommended in active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevation of liver enzymes. Seek urgent care for muscle pain/weakness with fever or dark urine (risk of myopathy/rhabdomyolysis). Use with caution in kidney disease, hypothyroidism, heavy alcohol use, and in elderly. Liver function may be monitored. Avoid large quantities of grapefruit juice. Do not use if allergic to atorvastatin.
Drug Interactions
Strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (clarithromycin/erythromycin, azole antifungals, HIV protease inhibitors, cobicistat) increase atorvastatin levels; cyclosporine; gemfibrozil and other fibrates; niacin (high dose); colchicine; amiodarone/verapamil/diltiazem (may increase levels); warfarin (monitor INR); digoxin (levels may increase); rifampicin (may reduce effect)
